Anjuna Beach – Things You Need to Know Before Visiting

Anjuna beach is one of north Goa's best-known beaches between North Goa beach Baga and South Ozran beaches, also known as Little Vagator beaches. This was a very popular beach in Goa due to the hippy culture in the 1960s and 1970s. Now it's a favorite with many European backpackers. But Anjuna is also popular among the Indians. Many stay near the beach, while others visit during the day. For backpackers and for long stays, the beach is particularly popular. Tourists also come for a glorious sunset over the Arabian Sea to Anjuna beach.


The town of Anjuna is 22.2 km from the NH 66 state capital of Panaji. Vasco da Gama Beach is 46 km from this beach. Thivim, which is 19.3 km from the beach, is the nearest railway station. Anjuna is in North Goa a beach slightly different from others. Anjuna is less sandy than the other ones. Certain stretches are rocky. There are plenty of rocky outcrops. There are plenty of picturesque red rocks here, which is why it is called Rocky Beach. Best Time to Visit Anjuna

Anjuna is one of the most popular beaches in Goa so tourists will find it all year round. However, between November and February, the winter months, most tourists come here. The best time to visit the beach is here. Very nice weather! Every shack is open. Parties! Water sports! At other times, most shacks will be closed and water sports will also be found. In December and January, wait for more people. For people who don't want so many tourists, November or February is better.

Weather

  • By Road – From Anjuna, Panaji is 22.2 km away.


Best Things to Do and See at Anjuna

  • Clubbing and Partying - Anjuna is one of Goa's festive capitals. You have rave parties, trance parties, and full moon evenings, much like Thailand, here in the peak touristic season. Parties are on the beach, and there are numerous cafés, nightclubs, and even beach shackles.
  • The Flea Market - The Anjuna flea market is now the most popular in Goa, initiated by hippies to exchange commodities. It is open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Mondays. You will find sarees, jewelry, crafts, stalls that sell Indian and international cuisine. Live concerts are also held.
  • Chapora Fort - Only five kilometers from Anjuna is one of the main forts in Goa. Chapora. Go to the top of the former Portuguese fort to see the shoreline and the interior with a wonderful view. In the fort, there is also a church to see.
  • Anjuna Beach - The best beach in Goa is not Anjuna. But it still deserves a visit. You can party on the beach, relax in one of the many shacks, and have some of the best seafood and beverages. The beach in Goa is rocky; Anjuna is different from most others. The beach is sandy at the south end. It's the best place to swim.
  • Alternative Therapies - In the Anjuna, Assagao, Vagator area you'll find many yoga retreats. You can join a course and study at Yoga, Swan Yoga in Purple Valley, and the White House in Tito. Minimum classes for a week. Therapeutic massage services are also available here.
  • St. Michael’s Church - This is one of Goa's oldest (16th century) churches, yet is in a decent state. Its Portuguese architecture and beautiful carving are its major attractions. There's also a well-known St. Michael statue. See the devil beneath his feet and the left hand of the scale.


Anjuna Flea Market


Anjuna has two weekly markets. The Saturday night market is in Arpora, but it's the most popular market for fleas for Anjuna on Wednesdays. The hippies began the Anjuna flea market to trade goods, to fund their stay. It is much more common now, yet many exotic things can still be found, including crafts, handcrafted jewelry, Kashmiri and Tibetan goods, sackcloths, clothing, tribal artifacts, and many more.

A lot of stands are available, from the beach to the Anjuna Junction road. Many stands sell the same stuff, so you ought to negotiate. Live music is also available in a few bars and restaurants. Bands are playing jazz, rock, and other kinds of music. Indian tourist, the West, and backpackers–everybody comes to the flea market in Anjuna. For the Goa experience, it's a must-do.


Nightlife at Anjuna

During the day, Anjuna is a relaxing place with Indian and foreign tourists on the beach, with the exception of the flea market. However, the evening comes to life, when the party scene becomes hot. You will see trance parties both outdoors and indoors at Anjuna. They take place almost every night between November and February. Full-moon parties are also present here.


Best Nightclubs in Anjuna:

  • Curlies - Curlies is an advanced and relaxing club on the southern side of the beach. However, when the party begins, the place becomes very famous and noisy. Late-night dance areas and the rooftop lounge are included.
  • Cafe Lilliput - This is another top nightclub in Anjuna, close to the flea market. But there's lodging and a daily restaurant at the back as well.
  • Shiva Valley - This has become a full-blown trance club from only a beach shack. On Tuesdays, all-night parties are held. Shiva Valley is also on the beach's south end.
  • Hill Top - This is the spot for rave parties located on the top of a hill between Ozran Beach and Anjuna. The DJs come from England, Sweden, France, Germany, Italy, France, Germany, and India. Thousands participate in the rave events in the peak season during the weekends.
  • UV Bar - UV Bar is quickly emerging as a hot party destination at the very northern end of the beach. The wild trance party is known best for it. Two floors are here for dance.


Hotels

Hotels, resorts, hostels, guest houses can be found in Anjuna on all budgets. Prices are generally lower than in many other Goa locations. Many people, in particular, want to stay here for a long time and to stay in guesthouses and hotels in the cheaper accommodation.
